Hi

My heating has simply stopped working and i wanted to know, could a faulty 3 port valve do this?

The boiler is in the garage and will fire up when the froststat is turned, however turning the heating and hot water does nothing.

I had a similar fault a few weeks ago, but that time it was just the heating that did not work turning on the hot water still fired the boiler. It did all eventually kick in but was wondering if that was the sign it was on its way out?

So, can a faulty 3 port valve stop a boiler from firing?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

If neither are working I would look in the FAQ's on how to check the pump first.

With CH & HW on move the manual override on the actuator to the mid position, does the boiler start up? Not sure if this actuator can be removed from the valve without a drain down. Search make and model and find out.

Does pump run ok?

With most valves, the manual lever does not open the valve sufficiently to engage the microswitch at the far end of its travel, so it won't fire up the boiler anyway. When just the hot water is calling for heat, the boiler is controlled by the cylinder thermostat so moving the actuator won't effect that either.

The motorised valve is not needed to create a demand for hot water. This command comes from the cylinder stat.
