Our holiday home apartment has a Horstmann Electronic 7 timer to control the hot water with a PulsaCoil A-Class hot water tank.

There is obviously more than one make of the timer. Our version appears to allow only one off & on time rather than three, as described in the user guide I found online. Ours has a slider at the bottom with settings "Off Time, On Time, Timed Boost Setting, Manual Boost, Timed Boost, Boost Selection".

This means if we have multiple showers / baths in the morning and want more showers/baths in the evening we have to remember to press 'boost' before we go out for the day.

Confusingly, there is also a boost button on the PulsaCoil tank.

We don't have economy 7 tarrif and the apartment has periods when nobody is visiting.

Questions:
1) Why are there two boosts - one on the timer and one on the tank?
2) Reading the user guide, it suggests that boost doesn't completely give us a whole new tank of hot water, but rather a bit 'extra'. Have I understood this right, and why is this the case? Is it assuming we have Economy 7 and would only want a full tank re-fill if we were during economy hours?
3) Can we replace the timer with something that's much more flexible, giving us the option to time a morning and an evening full tank of hot water, when lots of us are staying and we need to do childrens' baths?
4) I've heard of timers you can control online? Would begood so we could switch it off when nobody visiting and on the day before they arrive? Could we replace with one of those? Are they any good / Reliable?
5) Either way, would we be looking for an electrician for this? Or a heating / plumbing specialist?

Thanks in advance for any info you may be able to share.
