Problem unable to close door even when dishwasher is empty. There used to be a click when shut not anymore any ideas

Look in the top of the door at the latch mechanism where the loop part on the top of the chassis goes into
You should see an open jaw type mechanism, if you can only see a bar then I suspect your door latch/interlock mechanism has broken or at the very least sprung back into the locked position after you have opened the door

Not a very good pic but this is the part inside the top of the door. The looped part on the chassis fits inside the open jaw part on the interlock then springs over to lock it,
