Household tips and DIY waste

That's because the UK is a dumping ground for all the dross that the eu sends us from north Africa, eastern Europe and the middle east.

Can't believe I'm asking this in a Noseall kind of parity way but what the fook do you think the EU sends us from Africa, mid east, near east etc??

Ah, pay no attention, Roger's just using the opportunity to have another pop at immigrants. It's a dull thing being Roger.

Thought everyone knew Germany and France take the most?? The UK has been quietly smart so far.

Poor old Rog will laugh at other posters' comments then forget why he did it. Poor old fecker.

EU dump plenty of rubbish into the UK , some of it is specifically designed for the UK as well

The EU paper shufflers are also responsible to a certain extent for the increase in rubbish that requires dumping & all the resultant pollution that go's with it

some of us are & were involved in recycling long before it became fashionable.

Any way onwards & upwards I say :)

The UK is one of the biggest exporters of waste in the EU. We export over 640,000t of non-haz RDF alone.

We are not even in the top 3 of waste importers.
See here:

And here is a map of hazardous waste movements:

The EU has driven the reduction in landfilling. It is the UK that has had the most appalling record of conforming to these improvements.

And just because a country imports or exports waste, does not mean they are bad. If a large recycling plant needs to take in a particular waste, it makes sense to take waste rather than sticking it in landfill. Many of these wastes require specialist treatments, and so it makes sense that such movements occur.

That so much household waste is exported as RDF from the UK is a reflection of the politics of installing incinerators here. We should be building them ourselves, but many areas have been prevented by the politics of fear.

If you want to know how waste management should be done, see countries like Netherlands, Belgium, or France. These have waste to energy, but their waste minimisation programs have even resulted in an over capacity, which has meant they have had to import RDF. I can't see us ever being in such a position unfortunately.
