There is a trigger cable and board assembly that you can buy to utilise the onboard trigger outputs. If you only need one output, then 1001 is available on-board. The trigger outputs are switched negative, so connect your 12V relay to +12 aux on the panel and the negative to the output (Ie. 1001). The default setting for 1001 is SET/Reflex, so you need to change the setting to something like BELLS or STROBE.
You can also double up with the sounder output as suggested by Mark.
You still need a relay with the gjd to short out the trip input via a couple of diodes but the gjd way is better as the unit is fused. Or elmdene do a mains switching unit for around £25 which I believe is also fused.
Thank you for all your suggestions, this sounds a bit daft...but the trigger head on the board...is there a connector for it ? and will I be able to programme each of the outputs to connect to different devices?
There are a couple of trigger connection types for the G2. One with a flying lead which has screw terminals on a small PCB as per my previous reply. And one like this which is a connector on a ribbon cable that can be connected directly to the devices you install:
