hi all,

I purchased 5 natural oak boards/shelves/planks from B&Q with which to use as a feature backing to my tv.
I am planning on mounting them on batons so they are slightly away from the wall for cables to go behind.

The tv bracket will be attached to the oak. The conundrum I am facing is how to attach the oak to the batons without unsightly screws or nails ruining the look.

Can anyone suggest alternatives?

Many thanks,
Matt

Is it real oak or oakfaced chipboard?

If it real oak a plug cutter can be used to patch the screw holes for a hidden look. Alternatively there are plenty of hidden fixing proprietary systems like button fix which i have used and is a good job.

I would say glue it and use lost head nails but if the tv is large then perhaps its better to over engineer than under.

I have built "floating" shelves, by drilling into the edge 4" or so with a 8mm drill. Drill the same line of holes in the wall. Get some stainless steel studding cut it into suitable lengths. Fill the wall hole with PVA glue and knock pins into the holes. Put PVA into holes in shelves and knock onto the studding. Wipe up the excess. I left the shelves about 1" from the wall. I did this in a porch because the shelves would be covered with plant pots and it allowed the muck to be swept of the shelves. Also used this system for a plate shelf right around our dining room.
