I've just moved into a new property and now have a rough, patchy, weedy back lawn that I'd like to rip-up and replace. I've read the posts on here and now have a pretty good idea of how to go about it;

Rip up the old, put in a skip,
level (pretty level anyway),
Bring-in top soil, gently compact and rake the top
Water and lay turf

The area is about 35 feet x 35.

My son will help me so we need to book some time off work, 2 questions;

1/. How long do you think this will take us from start to finish?
2/. Do you think 1 large skip will be enough?

Hard to say without seeing what's in the ground already, but on a typical site that would take me a day. But then I am used to it.

As for the skip, again its hard to say without knowing wht you'll be pulling out of the ground. I always get a big skip, cos you'll be surprised what you find to fill it with. A 6 cu yd one will be good.

I would say do it over three days.

Day 1. Rip up and level
Day 2.Lay your nice new lawn
Day 3.Stay in bed with aches and pains, glad its all over waiting for the summer
