how to remove glue

I removed a plastic floor that was in the kitchen and I realized that it was glued with asphalt or a very dark sort of glue. I don't know why it was there. Maybe to isolate???

Since I want to tile this room I need to remove this "glue" from the floor.
Could you advised on how to do it.

You might find you don't have to remove bitumen of the floor as the tile adhesive should stick to it providing it's bedded in. Check with tile adhesive instruction first or ring their helpline
