hi guys,

I have a strange problem.....

I have an Ideal Classic RS250 boiler.

Honeywell 3 port valve brand new
Danfoss cylinder stat brand new
Grundfos pump
FP715 controller

I had an issue with the hot water getting scalding hot so replaced the cylinder stat with no success. I then found that a few radiators were heating slightly when no CH was be called for, so replaced the 3 port valve & figured that would cure the problem. Not all.... I then started to question the existing Y plan wiring so ripped it all out & rewired it from scratch. I ran off all of the near boiling hot water held in the tank set the cylinder stat at 65* the water temperature hit the call point at 65* and turned off Jackpot!! I then turned the room stat on CH came on all looking good yes I thought I've cracked it. First thing the following morning I opened up the airing cupboard to check the cylinder stat was still working correctly & once again found the water boiling again even though the pump hadn't been running. I then decided to turn off the whole heating supply no voltage to any thing at all and left it for 12 hours. I checked the 3 port valve and it was red hot as was the HW & CH either side of the 3 port valve. I then focused in on the boiler with no voltage applied & just the pilot on which I assumed should be a single flame & found the following flame
<a href='http://postimage.org/' target='_blank'><img src='http://s13.postimg.org/5l32di9rr/image.png' border='0' alt="image" /></a><br /><a target='_blank' href='http://postimage.org/'>online photo storage</a><br /><br />

I tested the boiler thermostat & no problems working fine. Powered up everything again set the room stat to call, boiler fires up as it should, lowered the boiler stat & it works cutting out main burner & back to my larger than normal pilot light.

Is the gas valve faulty ? As I assume either the pilot is getting to much pressure or the main boiler burner is feeding the pilot somehow ?

It would appear that even though it's on pilot which is surely the fault over a period of time the boiler is just constantly heating through convection ?

Thanks in advance if anyone can shed some light on this

Isolate gas supply to boiler and have it looked at.
Have you had to reset overheat stat on boiler.

No checked the immersion heater & even pulled the fuse to totally eliminate that.

You need to call in gas safe engineer as I know what is the problem but we are not allow to advise on gas side area

Daniel.

Daniel,

I'm trying to establish if I should just simply buy a new boiler as a new gas valve is £160 plus fitting & the boiler is 18 years old now, if it's a couple of quid for a new pilot / burner jet then I may as well run it until it finally packs up.

Can Daniel or anyone point me in the right direction as to what my fault is ? So at least I can point the engineer in the right direction from the start & not managing to get my leg pulled  along the way

Cheers guys

Well .....it certainly isn't a pilot injector issue...:ROFLMAO:

Yo

Your engineer won't need pointing in the right direction And will probably either walk or charge you more if you do.

Jeez I ask a straight forward question. I will be away whilst someone comes to look at the boiler problem leaving my wife to deal with it. Hardly an ideal situation as she doesn't have a clue about heating apart from wanting to be kept warm & washed daily in hot water hence my question I.e what's wrong so we don't get mugged off....

Not really, your wife will be there to let the RGI in to deal with it. She may not have a clue about heating but he will.

Not having the benefit of being on the dark side! exactly how many hours labour & parts should we expect ?
