Immersion Heater keeps tripping out

Hi hope someone can help, our immersion heater keeps tripping out however does work on occassions. We have had an electrician out but he states that it is a plumbers job. Do we just need the immersion/element changing or is it likely to be something else?

If you mean that the overheat stat in the immersion heater head is popping out and has to be reset, then a new immersion heater will come with a new thermostat included.

If that is the trouble, it is possible that just fitting a new thermostat into the old immersion heater is all that is needed. This is important because it can be done without draining the cylinder and is a much easier and cheaper job than fitting a new immersion heater. If it is a modern immersion heater the thermostats are readily available, easily fitted, and inexpensive.

What kind of insulation does your hot water cylinder have?
