Hi guys

I hope somebody can help. Our washing machine, an Indesit WIDL 126 is making one HELL of a racket, it is currently working on destroying the ear drums of our entire street as I type this.

Me and our landlord have had a good old root around, the shocks/springs are ok, the bearings seem ok (very very very tiny amount of play in the drum though?) it is draining out OK and the spider arms are fine too.

Yet the noise persists and it is bloody loud.

Does anybody have anything to put us on the right track?

Cheers :)

Top weight /bottom loose or drum support cracked.

Hi Rock

Glad you responded mate you seem to be quite highly regarded!!

The drum supports - are they the black shock things under the drum bolted to the case?! If so we had them off with some new ones handy thinking it was that, and they are exactly the same?!

The concrete blocks seem to be attached OK and not loose... ARGH!!

Hope this thing is fixable on the cheap... what else can it be Sir Rock?! :)

Causes of noise
Drum Bearing wearing (even a small amount can cause loud noise depending on load)
Drum support cracked not always obvious
Drum bearings corroding giving a load rumbling noise when drum is turned
Motor bearings corroding/failing as above
Shock absorbers and springs worn
Counter weights loose (sometimes you need to give them a good shake to see if they move not a light tug)
Machine not level
Drum overloaded/poor distribution of load

Cheers Leccy:

Bearings - there is a tiny bit of play (2-3mm?) is that enough?
Drum Support - what would I be looking for, the black shocks or the springs? Or the spider on the back?
Motor Bearings - motor seems ok but it is a bit more noisy than usual...
Shocks and Springs are OK
Counter weights seemed OK but I will give them a good shoving this evening
Machine is levelled out
Drum not overloaded (does it with light loads) and is evenly distributed

2 to 3 mm is a lot of play and can cause loud noises, take the belt off and spin the drum by hand, does it rumble
try to lift the inner drum afterwards with the belt off
The drum support is commonly called the spider

Haven't got around to whipping the belt off yet will do it this evening.

If it is bearings, how hard to replace and what are the dangers of it going wrong on this machine and other things needing replaced?
