Hello people,

I will be installing a new electric oven at the weekend, At the moment the only power points located near my existing gas oven is a double standard plug socket for the kettle/microwave. Will i be able to switch this to a cooker switch with single plug socket, or even just a cooker switch. The manual says i require an all-pole disconnect switch. is this the same as a double pole?

Cheers for any advice. I am pretty switched on with stuff but will understand if you advise i get a sparky out.

it all depends on what is behind that socket

if it was a cooker cuircuit that has been converted it can be converted back pretty easilly (though do ask for more details ang give us the power rating of this coocker)

if its just a single oven then its probablly within the rating of a 13A socket but putting it on a double with your microwave would be asking for trouble

anythinkg more and it will need its won cuircuit

also what is your CU like and are there any spare ways?

If that's Man City, you don't get any advice from me!! :D

Thanks,

I will come back with cooker specs tomorrow, its buried at moment, re-doing whole kitchen and misses is asleep. What is CU? Main box? And any help with the all/double-pole question?
Also what am i looking for behind current plug sockets so i can give as much info as possible tomorrow.

Cheers

OK. My CU is full by the looks of it.

As the oven is rated at 2.3 Kw, could I replace the current double 13A double plug socket with the double-pole cooker switch then to the connector box and then to the oven?
