Hi,could anybody advise me on the regulations as regard to installing an electric oven, the reason i ask is i have just had a couple of engineers from a famous electrical store booked for today to deliver and install an electrical oven as it is broke and is within the manufactures warranty.. This cooker has already had 3 engineers from the same store working on it already to try and fix it but it has had to be replaced, anyway they took the cooker into the kitchen took one at look at each other and asked if an engineer from their store had installed the cooker. to which i replied no it was installed by kitchen fitters. To which one of the engineers said"sorry mate we cannot install the cooker"i then replied "why" which the reponse was "well because the main isolation switch has to be two metres from the cooker" (which it is as i have just measured it)"and has to be easily accesible" (which is if you stand on a chair i know it is a bit high but it would take me less than a second to reach for a chair and turn off the switch). I was so shocked at this, and said " i had never had any other problems when it was first installed by Kitchen fitters when my kitchen was built last" year".Then one of them replied "it is really upto the electricians judgement whether it should be fitted or not and obviousley the fitted it". I couldn,t believe what i was hearing i then asked them to remove the new cooker from my premises as i am going to claim a refund for the store, but i would really like to know what the regulations are on fiiting electrical cookers.Does anyone have any advice or links to any sites that will tell me the regulations thanks.
