Just taken early retirement and decent at diy.

my question is would it be too difficult to remove my timber french doors, attached side windows and the frames and replace with Upvc assisted by my big strong son.

any specialist tools required? I already own an extensive diy tool kit.

Not complicated or those profiteering double glazing companies couldn't do it.

Do establish if there's a proper lintol above as in past times the frame was used to support the outer skin, that can complicate things.

The only real issue is that nowadays you do need to inform building control if you aren't registered as FENSA approved. You will need to get the right spec windows and doors and pay the LA their fee to tick the boxes but you can save a fortune compared to the big name companies doing it. Find a good local window fabricator and take their advice.
