Hi guys,

My question is - which is best for heat conservation and sound when turning a garage with a single-skin wall into a room?
Blocks or timber & insulation?

The builder we've commissioned is recommending framing it and using kingspan, then plasterboarding & skimming.

Some builders we had out suggested using breezeblock instead.

There's plenty of space for either so that's not a concern.

(I've googled around, but there's nothing definitive, just "as long as it meets regs").

Cheers!

Fit a thermal laminate plasterboard such as Kingspan K17 or K18. Framing is unnecessary unless the wall is very uneven and needs straightening out. K17 is fixed with dot and dab - K18 is mechanically fixed. I prefer the latter. 82.5mm will give you a good U-value. The boards include a built in vapour control layer as well.
