I need to take an inch off a door but don't know whats the best tool to use, someone told me to use a circlur saw but have never used one before, do you get a stright cut? do you have to follow a line to get a stright cut or does it do the work for you?

Thanks

yep circular saw, hand saw(take a bit of time ;) )jigsaw carefully, electric planer, but which ever you use an eletric planer will be a god send in planning down to the line, block plane or glass paper to take the 'arriss' off.

All depends where your taking the 1" off and what sort of door it is. Could be a hollow (eggshell type) Or solid timber door.
If it's a hollow door and is off the length of the door, I'd take 1/2" off either side. If it's off the bottom, I'd take the 1" off but replace the timber in the bottom of the door (glueing the filler piece back in)
If it's a solid timber door, then as above, but no need to replace ant timber infill on the bottom.
Either way, with a circular saw, you'll have to mark a line to follow. ;) ;)
