Is this a cavity wall?

Measure the thickness of the wall at the opening jambs. There are headers in the wall, but sometimes snapped ones are used.
You can also drill a small hole in the wall. CI firms drill holes to check the walls.

The walls are 22 cm thick.

I have worked on houses with headers in the bond, but they were cavity walls. There was a cavity tie brick sometimes used that needed a cut brick to cover the end of the tie on the face work.

So what is a sure fire test I can do to find out?

The thickness of the wall tells you a lot about it. 100mm brick face, 100mm brick or block inner skin (rough measurements) plus 50-75 approx for older cavity wall, plus internal plaster.
Solid walls approx 220mm (does vary a bit) plus plaster.

if you measure the bricks in your photo the overall thickness of the wall is about 250 to 300 mm, your house is only 220 mm so its a solid wall no cavity :D
