My rear sliding door sits on a solid brick foundation in a wooden frame.

Whoever did the ceiling in the past notched some joists on the rsj which rests on 2 piers. Problem is the joists are lower than room ceiling.

Can i put a wall plate and join these ceiling joists to roof rafters in the middle. Is it normally done or thinking silly. View media item 83875

The present ceiling joists have been notched from RSJ on a rear opening and sits on sliding patio door.

The notched joist sits on the bottom flange thus making ceiling lower than room ceiling. How to raise the ceiling height at same level.

What i was asking is,if it is possible to connect ceiling joists in middle of rafters with bolts as in picture.
