I have a Blanco stainless steel sink. The top and bottom parts of the basket are held together by a large threaded bolt which is at the centre of the basket / plug hole. When I fitted the basket it came with a gasket / washer which fitted between rim of the upper part of the basket and the sink body. Tightening the bolt pulls the upper and lower parts together and makes a seal with gasket.
However several years ago this gasket appeared to have disintegrated and water started leaking under the basket rim and out into the cupboard below the sink. The basket was then able to rotate in its "socket". I tried to replace it by loosening the threaded bolt but it had seized to its threaded socket in the lower part of the basket.
I took my Dremel to it and cut the head off the bolt and replaced the basket. Now it has happened again after about a year! I have a replacement basket but before going through this whole nonsense again I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice so the same mistakes aren't repeated.
I was going to use some Plumber's Mait instead of the "gasket" this time. Also is there anything I could use on this threaded bolt to stop it seizing? With it be exposed to water and debris every day I'm guessing greasing it may be futile?
Any advice is appreciated.
