Hey everyone I have a question to which I hope has a simple answer

Im just about to replace some kitchen worktops in my kitchen, upon a
visit to my local diy shop I was told the
depth of a worktop to be used in a kitchen SHOULD be 600mm...

HOWEVER the ones I am removing (which was already there when I
moved in might I add) are 300mm depth...

does the depth really matter as I have got one with my old worktops no
Problem at all and I would have to replace/remove the tiling line and
electrical boxes if I went with the 600mm

any thouhts would be much appreciated

Are you talking about the depth from front to back or the thickness?

Depth is usually 600mm but you can cut to whatever you need, thickness is usually around 28mm or 38mm. More basic kitchens are often 28mm which is fine but may be more prone to bowing in unsupported situations over washing machines etc.

Yes im talking about the thickness of the worktop...

its well supported underneath and the previous worktop
Never bowed anywhere I just burnt the surface with a saucepan
haha oops :)

Thanks for your reply

Me too  300 or 600 thick? - I don't think so

I think the OP needs to rethink his/her definitions of thickness and depth. To the OP - depth is the measurement of the worktop from front to back; thickness is the THICKNESS - how else to describe without pictures (which I don't have right now!)?

Hi sorry for the delay and the confusion

After returning to the shop it seems I was
Misinformed the wortop they are selling are
300mm in depth not thickness and apparently
Only suitable for bathrooms I just assumed all
Worktops come a set size e.g 600mm then
U cut it to the size u need whats the point in selling
In them in halfs

Hi Berty84, Glad it's cleared up, it did cross my mind that if it was a 600mm thick worktop you might be living at the top of a magic beanstalk ;)

Just watch out for blokes named Jack shinning up to nick golden eggs :D

Best wishes
