The missus is on about knocking the kitchen and lounge so they're more or less one room, rather than just a door separating them.

I'm not very gifted DIY wise, never really attempted anything.

Can anybody give me any pointers?

At the mo the door is in the middle of the wall, I guess really I'd be looking at knocking out perhaps a whole door size again next to it, or a door and a half if feasible.

So in effect width would be 2 and a half doors and the height would be same as it is now, door height?

Is this permitted in a house that you own, is it safe?

Thanks

Assuming your house is no listed there are no problems in doing this but your course of action depends if its loadbearing or not. You'll need to find out if the wall is supporting anything above. Is it stud or masonry? Search the forum using the search facility to find out how to establish whether its loadbearing or not. //search.diynot.com/forum_sear...tbytime=0&author=&search=Search+Forum&stype=0

If it is loadbearing then Building Control need to oversee the works if its non structural then you can go ahead and do it.
