Knocking noise when boiler fires up

My boiler was installed 12 months ago and whenever it fires up a knocking noise is heard. I have spoken to my engineer and he doesn't seem to know what it is. It is a series of knocks, with 10 second intervals and then around 3 large knocks. When the boiler has finished it is fine, no noise. I have TRV's on all radiators except the bathroom which is fed direct from the tank. My room thermostat is in the living room.
Please could someone help me.
