laguna 2 sticky fuel gauge

anybody know how to solve this it's got a mind of it's own sometimes shows empty next time after parking qaurter full.mick

It will probably be either the gauge itself sticking or the sender in the tank - unless its some wierd electronic fault.

Weird electrical fault in a Renault, never.... :D

As above, just keep a can of petrol in the boot.

Oh and try flicking the glass on the gauge with your finger with the ignition switched on. If the reading changes it's a sticky gauge in the dash. If not its the sender in the tank or a bad connection.

Just be careful with sparks/bad connections with the fuel tank opened, if it's a petrol.

I had a Peugeot 405 diesel with a gauge that stuck regularly, it would indicate three quarters full for ages, then suddenly drop to almost zero.
Got round this by a few emergency brake applications, to get the fuel swishing in the tank.
It was one of the best cars I ever owned.
