Laptop does not access certain websites

When using the laptop (W8) it has stopped accessing various websites such as Google, BBC, HSBC, but it will go to Wikipedia and navigate that ok, but not any external links, also no problem with some ukgov sites, wifi is working ok and have tried it hard wired to the hub with no joy. Desktop PC is working normally. Thanks in advance for any input

Have YOU blocked access to the site in error.
Saying that I could not get to a web site, that I always used to, I checked everything, spent days, couldn't solve it.
When I upgraded to Win 10, I could get to it again,

Just the standard "Cannot access this page check your wifi connection etc", web security is windows defender, AKAIK no settings have been altered, also it seemed to happen gradually over a few days

Done a full scan and picked up a couple of Trojans, all sorted now

I was about to suggest malware as the cause but looks like you beat me to it.
