And when it rebooted, it took ages, all the while the screen pulsed.

Finally, when I got a screen, my password into the PC was deleted and then I discovered the system could not even set up the display properly, giving it an inferior resolution where everything was HUGE and would not fit on the screen.

What a 5H1T job.

If you ever have the misfortune to have to do this, please be aware of what the system will do to your stuff...

Change to Linux. It's free, it's better, and it doesn't spy on you. Microsft is also rumoured to be looking to change to a subscription model.

I used to use Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal!) but gave up on it as running video, audio and printers etc...was not easy.

Is it better now, all plug and play?

This Windows 10 is being forced on users of older Windows by stealth. I'm on 7, and left my pc for a couple of minutes some months ago to find it had automatically started the Win 10 free 'upgrade' process. I hadn't asked for it and didn't want it, so quickly unplugged my pc to thwart their plan. Beware of someone forcing something 'free' on to you.
