Lightweight Block - Fixings

I've found both those makes to be very good, one tip when drilling aerated concrete blocks; don't bother with a Hilti 52, a small battery screwedriver/drill with a normal drill bit as apposed to a masonry bit.

No hammer action necessary through the wood or thermalite. = a nice clean hole.

First time I've had to worry about lightweight blocks. Rest of the house is brick and takes a nice solid fixing.

Can't say the fixings into blocks feel as firm as I'm used to - fixing the wall hung wash basin may be fun.

Maybe I'm underestimating the strength of the blocks.

You are. I have some home made gallows brackets in my garage that are fixed to the aerated block wall with plugs and screws, similar to what i described. There is a lot of weight up on them there gallows as well as the impact force when we crudely dump stuff up there.

You can improve the 'grab' if you oppose the direction of the screws creating a kind of fish tail effect.
