I hope you us can help.
I have been searching the net for some time about this but last nights rain and the resulting horrific wood flooring issue has made this a little more pressing.
We had a hardwood conservatory fitted which had no end of leaks, almost all sorted now and matching Bi fold doors. They were fitted by our very unreliable joiner, who is a lovely person, just not that great at fitting new installations by all accounts.
The bifold doors have a three inch bit of concrete above, and a couple of inches down each side. The problem is the top of the doors lets in an amazing amount of water. I'm not sure exactly what should have been done when he fitted them, as I'm sure he would say too. It was a straight swap for the metal patio doors that were taken out. I don't think there is much in the way of these new innovations of weep holes etc but can't really think about that now. He has had to quit joinery and has other problems (plus brother of a friend) so I can't insist he re does the whole thing properly with a clear conscience. I'd rather just try and see how we can stop the water coming in.
I was going to get a roofer in to lay a lead flashing along the top, which will look odd possibly but would be water tight, but I am slightly reluctant as it may not be the whole problem and spending more than a hundred pounds if I have the solution wrong is too much! Instead I am thinking of getting some flashing tape and getting the joiner to make a matching wooden piece to the doors to pretty it up.
I can post pics tomorrow as its too dark now, but can this possibly work? It will cost 15 quid for this fix and if it only lasts a couple of years and works then we might go for the proper job lead work.
Help!
