Can anyone help pls? Our dishwasher seems to have developed a fault insofar that the detergent door does not now appear to be opening, meaning that dishes are being washed in hot water only. The latch is free to move and still has spring tension in it, but obviously without stripping down the internal door fittings and mechanisms, I can't see if there is a problem there. Is this a common fault, the m/c is less than three yrs old and replaced an ancient hotpoint model which would have been dearer to repair than to replace. Will this be the case again? Many thanks in advance for any assistance/advice.

After speaking to a family member (who happened to be at Wembley last night and therefore uncontactable), even if the trap door actuator has gone, it does not matter, simply place the tablet in either the cutlery tray or in the mesh drain and use the dishwasher as normal. The new type tablets are too big to fit due to the "powerball" and this leads to door release mechanisms failing.

The trouble with throwing the tablet in the dishwasher is that the rinse cycle flushes most of the detergent out before the machine moves to the wash sequence. If its just the power ball tablets that are are causing the door to jam use regular ones like "Sun"...or powder. The door flap is actuated by a solenoid inside the door, if it won't activate the malfunction could be mechanical or electrical.
Run a program without a tablet in & see if the flap opens then, if it does change detergent brand/type.
