matt over silk

Is it ok to paint over vinyl silk with matt emulsion? Is there any surface prep needed? Any probs i might encounter?

Sometmes its ok...youl get away with iy..other times you wont

Play it safe and give the walls a really good rub down with 100 grade abrasive paper
 
Often you get fine cracks appearing in the matt paint when you've overcoated silk. Follow zampa's advice and it should help matters.

Don't do it in a room subject to high humidity. I painted yellow matt over dark green silk and no matter what I did the cracks kept coming back. Like a honey comb, Vinyl silk is the devil's p155 IMO.

Yes it drys and looks like cracks in dry mud . Sand the wall first :eek: :evil:
