Quite a bit of the mortar that points the ends of the cut tiles on my valley had come off last year so I repointed them. However, I obviously did a crap job because some of it has come loose again. It may have been that I didn't use the correct mortar mix (not that I can remember what I did use).

Can somebody please tell me what is the correct ratio for the mortar mix.

The problem is that you repointed and not rebedded. If you repoint again, then chances are it will fall out again next year.

There have been recent thread on mortar mixes for ridges and verges which will also do for valleys. Its best to use a mix of building and sharp sand too.

Also a proper smooth, trowel and compacted joint gives a long life
