I have several large pieces of 6mm thick glass glued to my kitchen walls to provide a splashback feature. They are approx 800mm x 800mm in size.

Some of these pieces of glass have a pre-cut hole in them so that a double mains socket can be fixed onto the wall.

I have just replaced the double sockets with decorative ones (black nickel metal ones). However, I have been unable to replace one of the sockets as the hole in the glass isn't large enough to allow the socket to sit flush against the glass surface. It's only' 0.5mm to 1mm of uneven glass that I need to file down.

What's the best way to do this without causing any damage to the glass?

The glass will be very weak due to the stress lines in it. If you attempt it I'd guess it will break.

Better filing down slightly the socket where it fouls the glass.

Okay, i've just bought a Dremel so will file down the plastic on the back of the socket faceplate. Cheers for the advice.
