Hi, i'm new to this forum but will no doubt be posting here more since we've just purchased our first house.

we've just stripped back the plaster in our extension and found a timber lintel in place where the old dining room window used to be, the idea was to change this for an rsj.

Today i have been to measure for mentioned rsj and i've noticed the pillar/brick on the right side (viewed out) is all damaged and loose, not strong enough for an rsj & load!

does anyone have any ideas on what to do to be able to support a new lintel, thanks in advance for any replies!

Regards ,Marc

Thanks for the reply Woody! That's pretty much as suspected, would you have any idea how big a job this would be, obviously depends on who I get in to do it but it was a massive worry uncovering that, I suppose the more I dig the more potential problems I'm going to uncover, Thanks again Woody

It would be an easy job. Prop the lintel with a prop or timber and rebuild the pier.

A couple of hours work for a builder, but 1/2 day if you are getting someone in especially to do this
