We have just had new TV sockets put into new rooms in the house from our Digital Aerial.

We had a booster box put in.

We have just set up the TV in the new room and 'some' channels are scrambled and unwatcheable??

Last night ITV1 was scrambled? I retuned a full scan and it was fine. Then this morning, BBC1 was scrambled and ITV1 was fine?!!

Does anyone know if this is a weak signal or anything else? I am using a short white aerial cable, maybe a bigger cable is stronger?

I just wanted to elminate what this could be, before calling someone out

If you have done a "first time" installation retune then it's one possibility that the signal level is a bit borderline and that's wht you're losing picture at different times of the day. There are lots of causes for this.

Also, those premade cables with the moulded plugs then they are rubbish. They lose signal level and they are prone to picking up- and also radiating- signal to and from other devices. A bit of satellite coax with some aerial plugs fitted is a much better solution.

When you say "You had sockets and a booster installed"... was that done by an professional aerial guy or done DIY?

This was installed by a professional. I will try a different aerial cable actually as i am using a thin pre-moulded aerial cable so maybe a better cable would change things?

Not all channels are broadcast at the same strength. So if it was a pro install then whoever installed for you should have used a signal meter to check the level at the end of the fly lead, and they should also have sat with you while you checked signal on the strong and weak channels on the TV. Me and the other pro installers here do this for our own customers.

Problem do occur every now and then. Touch wood, but in all the time I have been installing I have had to go back to only two installs. One was where the local conditions were very difficult. The other the customer insisted on trying to pick up a marginal transmitter because of the regional TV choice. I stand by my work so sorted both and learned to stand my ground. As long as you haven't changed any equipment or cables after the install then get the installer back to sort this out.

I have changed the aerial lead for a much thicker standard cable and done a full retune. So far so good, all channels are playing :)
