Hi

I have a Caffoteaux and Maury MX2 boiler that has started whistling when the heating is on. If I turn the hot water tap on the whistling stops but comes back shortly after I switch the tap off.

The pressure is currently at 2.5 bar.

Any ideas would be reallyappreciated.

Ideally the pressure shouldn't be over 2 bar when hot, release the pressure by opening a drain cock until the pressure drops to 1.0-1.5 bar when cold.

Don't know if it's causing the whistling though.

Is it the actual boiler thats whistling or he system it's self? Do you have TRV's fitted on your radiators? If so one could be faulty and causing the sound to resinate back thro the system. Next time the heating whistles try turning one of the trv heads an see if the noise stops. alternate on each rad til you find the one that stops the noise

Thanks alot for the replies.

I'll have a go at turning the pressure down this weekend.

The TRVs downstairs all affect the pitch of the whistle but didn't stop it. However one of the bedroom TRVs stopped the whistle altogther when I turned it off.

But I opened the TRV again and the whistle came back after an hour. That time turning the valve off didn't stop it.

Does this point to the valve or something else?

Many thanks
