Oak External Doors

Hi
We had a new door oak front door installed about 2 years ago. As you can imagine the weather as affected the appearance of the door.
As I am a complete DIY idiot Just wanted to make sure that I could lightly sand the door and then re-varnish? Dont want to stain the door, so if anyone knows of a good clear varnish that would be helpful

Danish oil is one alternative. Another is yacht varnish.
