Hey guys,

My house has the BT drop wire attach to the house, and then just inside an upstairs window is an old junction box (just containing 4 screw terminals, red/black wire on one side, and multicoloured on the other), with two cables heading off to the two phone sockets.

Neither of these sockets are branded as BT or openreach, although I believe one is a master socket.

Can I consider this junction box as the demarcation point (i.e. add wiring to the other side of it), in order to move the master socket?

Strictly speaking NO. The demarcation point in a domestic install is a socket connected to the incoming pair. You then connect all the DIY wiring to the plug that goes into that socket.

With an NTE 5 the front plate plugs into a socket in the the back part and that socket is the demarcation point. You can change the front plate as it is considered to be on the subscriber side of the demarcation point

You can under some circumstances, now, Openreach has a flexible demarcation policy. However it would probably be better to replace the junction box with a Linebox and filterered faceplate.
