Hi. We have a conservatory and would like to remove the window that currently separates it from another room. To make it walk through we'd also have to remove three courses of brick below (no change to the lintel). I'm conscious that we could end up with an oven in the summer and a fridge in the winter and wonder whether there are any Building Regs that require us to address this. The conservatory has upvc double glazing with a number of broken sealed units which I need to replace.

You would need to get Building Control approval to remove the glazing between the conservatory and the house and as conservatory's are so poor (as you've described) you will never get Building Control to approve it. So either do it illegally (many people do) and expect problems with heating/cooling and maybe expect some problems when you come to sell or just don't bother. Or build a proper extension instead.

Thanks. a proper extension sounds a bit too ambitious, would bifold doors be a halfway house solution?

The only way to get around the Building Control approval bit is to ensure that any doors/windows that separate the areas are external grade doors/windows.
