Hi,

Just having the whole house renovated.. The old plater is being removed from the walls and it is being replaced with dot and dab plasterboard that will be skimmed..

So what is the process for painting these "virgin" walls?

Do they need a number of coats of different things like primers and base coats or can they just be painted?

Thanks..

Whatever you do don't be talked into sealing with PVA!

Use a product like Dulux Supermatt which is designed for new plaster, it will allow the wall to continue drying out it is not as robust as normal paint, you cannot scrub it clean if marked, but you can overcoat with normal paint the next time you repaint and it will be a very good basecoat.
Follow the instructions on the tin for diluting the first (mist) coat which acts as a primer coat.
Try to wait until the wall is an even light colour so the skim has dried out as much as possible before painting.

Other makers do similar products look for "Paint for new plaster" on the tin.
