Painting over stone walls

Hi there

I have recently bought a house that has old walls. My partner wants to just rip the wallpaper off and simply paint over the walls. I want to strip the wallpaper and buy plaster boards and dot and dab them.

I think that just painting over the stone walls after ripping the wallpaper off is not the way to go. Does anyone agree or is this something that can be done.
