Got quotes in for Worcester 32CDi Compact plus rads etc. Quotes with 10 year warranty is far higher than the 5 years as I would expect but just how much is that extra 5 years worth? I'm tempted to go for 5 years a saving of at least £800

You'd be lucky to have the 5 year warranty honoured..

Will cost you a fortune to maintain the ten year......you'll have to run through hoops to maintain warranty......do you really think it is yourself that will benefit?????? :ROFLMAO:

By the time the 10 year period is finished you could have had 5 boilers installed...

Go for the CDi Classic instead...the heat exchangers been around since 2002 or so and is a proven design with very few issues.

I can't vouch for the Compacts but for the CDi Classic you will pay perhaps £60 to £80 for a basic annual service (check vessel, check combustion etc) each year and say at 5 and 10 years a full service (I charge £200....clean heat exchanger/sump & trap, replace electrodes, burner/heat exchanger/trap seals/auto air vent etc). So over 10 years you're looking at £900 to £1000 expenditure.

Thanks, chose compact for where its going as we need narrow depth of 295. It was that or Baxi Eco Blue or Blue plus. The 10 years parts and labour doesn't cover service anyways. We think a parts and labour contract is around £150 a year so that's the £800 but we have the freedom to shop around. Looks like 5 yrs at the moment.

You'd be much better off with an Ecoblue Plus (or better still, an Intergas which is only 240mm deep and is better than either of them). Wouldn't touch the Compact with a very long bargepole.

Service contracts are a waste of money. Put the money aside in a bank account for when you need it - it'll cost you less.

For the information of the poster, Worcester Accredited Gold installers pay zippo for the 10yr deal. It is a promotion available if a system filter and Worcester controls are fitted to a CDi boiler, whether classic or compact.

Your £500 is far more likely to reflect the cost of the filter and controls and better workmanship. Getting tradesmen into your house on price alone is a choice you may well have cause to regret. You only have to read this forum to see the work some knuckle draggers have done; Gas Safe registration does not imply quality, only that the recipient has passed a multiple choice test.

The 'combi bashing' domestic installer has the highest concentration of rogues in the gas industry.
