Peugeot 206 - Difficult to get into 1st and 2nd gear

I own a 51 plate, 1.1 Peugeot 206. Recently it's getting difficult to get it into 1st and 2nd gears (the others are fine). I've had the car serviced, the gearbox oil level checked (ok) and the clutch replaced, however I understand that it may be a problem with the gear linkage. Can anyone shed any light on this ? Is this part external to the gearbox, what is the likely cost to replace this part ???

May get away with just adjusting the linkage, otherwise sounds like the gearbox could be on it's way out if clutch has already been done.

This was a very common fault on 205's so may well be the same on 206's. Try chaning the gear linkage first, if you can do the job yourself then I don't think the parts cost a great deal. The linkage is what connects the gear stick to the gearbox, hence it's name !

Best to get someone to rock lever when static in gear and look/feel linkage joints for wear first.
