I have decided to move from copper to PEX pipework for anything smaller than 22mm. Got QPL fittings from Toolstation which appeared to work very well but I am not quite sure how tight these need to be. Is hand tight enough or should I be giving them an extra 1/2 turn with pliers.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Not familiar with 'QPL' - search on Toolstation comes up empty!
But if they're like Speedfit they should be hand-tightened ONLY, AFTER the pipe has been inserted butif they're like Hep2O, they should be left handtight always, including when the pipe is inserted, and only loosened to dismantle the joint.
Never, ever use tools to tighten push-fit! It will do nothing useful and will probably split the nut.
