Planer thicknesser

Hi

I want to buy a planer thicknesser and was wondering if anyone had any views or advise about them and also any recommendations. It will be for workshop use only and used mainly for my own private projects so doesn't really need to be trade performance. Saying that I've got a budget of around £500 so want to get the most for my money.

I spent a lot of money on a 12" machine. I could have got one of the really small portables which would have been a more useful tool.

I'm narrowing down the search to the Record, SIP and Elektras, all around £500. They all seem capable machines....
