Hi all

We are going to be overhauling our front garden and part of the new design will be a 6 foot high fence in the front garden. It will run parallel to the road in front (a very quiet country lane), but it will be a distance of 7 metres away from the roadside.

We are in a conservation area...

Does anyone know if planning permission is needed for this?

Many thanks

Max

No. At that distance from the road, you can build to a height of 2m (6' 5") - although in a CA you might need permission to demolish any existing structure

Occasionally, Local Authorities attach an Article 4 Direction to Conservation Areas prohibiting certain PD rights, so it might be worth checking your specific CA, but I doubt that there's any such prohibition here.

You can check all this on the government's website. It's surprisingly good on all this stuff...
