My client has a potterton profile 80 (15+yrs) i've not yet visited the property, but the boiler has recently been temperamental and the fan keeps stop/starting prior to firing up, iam presuming this is a APS or fan issue? comments welcome thanks!

Could be what you mentioned. However just look down the flue... I've worked on a lot of these that have had a corroded internal flue near the terminal. Pottery on have made a replacement tip. Can cause all sorts of probs (intermittent firing/high flue gas ratio)
