Hi,

I have 4 x 5' striplights in my office they are not individually switched so you have to have all four on at once (other than removing covers and taking out bulb)
My wife says that they are one of the major costs in our electricity bill - others say that they consume very little.
Does anyone know what the consumption would be please ?

Thanks
always appreciate any help

4 x the wattage rating of the tubes x how many hours per day they are on.

Eg. each tube is 58w and they are on for 6 hours a day. 200w x 6 hours = 1.4kWh.

If each unit costs 9p then they will cost 12.6p per day to run. Or nearly £46 a year.

ask your wife where she gets her info from. ;)

Fluorescent tubes are a form of energy saving lamp.

Look at a compact fluorescent lamp, its just a long tube curled up into a U or a spiral.

You could put up 4 x 50w halogen spot lights, and show your missus the difference. You will be dissapointed by halogen lights after using fluorescent tubes. Especially in a work envt.
