Hi,

I'm looking for a handy power tool to effortlessly sand down my doors and large skirting boards - anyone got any advice on what to look for ????

'Effortless' and building work are rarely used in the same sentence.

To remove a lot of material a belt sander will rip it off 3 times as quick as an orbital but it will round off corners like hell. ideally a belt for starters and then an orbital or palm for finishing/detailing around mouldings etc

I agree ..a belt sanders definitely the way to go and finish of with a random orbital sander for a nice finish

personally if theyre still in place id use one of the smaller with a lower grit as they are easier to control. One slip with a course grade on a belt sander and youre doing a lot of filling!

The belts on a belt sander will just clog if you are sanding paint.

Unfortunately there is no one idea tool.

For the larger surfaces I would use a 150mm rendom orbital sander.

For corners and smaller areas, something like the Festool rs400

or a delta sander

Also use a dust extractor to prevent the paint from over heating when sanding.
