My failed old 'Nettle' brand double wall socket has connection terminals the opposite way round to MK sockets. ie the cables embedded in the wall won't stretch to the correct terminals as the terminals on modern MK units are switched round to opposite ends of the socket.
Does anyone know of a manufacturer who makes sockets as Nettle did? They are out of business now.
To show this is difficult in writing, but looking at the wall, the cables come out of the wall as follows:

Neutral (black) on left (won't pull out further)
Live (red) on right (won't pull out further)
Earth (yell/green) on right

thanks
Andy

I think this calls for crimping or soldering extended pieces of suitable wire onto the ends, and covering with heat shrink sleeving.

What you need is to go to somewhere like B&Q or Homebase (or a good wholesaler if they'll serve you) and find a socket with the same configuration: some sockets have two earth terminals: one either side.

Otherwise it'll have to be crimping.

Volex and crabtree have both the live and neutral terminals in the bottom middle of the socket front (if that makes sense)

Might be worth a try?

Thanks for the tips and suggestions everyone :) -B&Q only had MK and another make with the terminals wrong way round, so I'll try Volex via some electrical wholesalers-maybe they will know who sells them or sell me one. Crimping I'll leave as a last resort.

Can you not use connector blocks if there's space in the back box?

Look on the back, it may have the make on it.
Nettle proberly have not made it, post a pic of the back it may be reconisible

The later Nettle sockets (square-cornered) were the same design as the MEM sockets....

The wiring accessories business has occupied the site since the early 1970s when, as Nettle Accessories, it was acquired by the Delta group and the MEM range of metalclad wiring accessories was merged with Nettle moulded accessories.

But it shouldn't matter what brand they are as long as the terminal config. is the same.
