Hi recently moved into a new home with a Ideal logic coming c30 boiler.

Last night noticed we weren't getting any heat in upstairs radiators.

Builder came in today whilst I was at work and told my wife to drag the lever on the motorised valve labeled 'up' across to manual override from auto.

Problem this evening seems to be reversed. No heat downstairs but upstairs radiators ok. Looked in and the manual override lever is in manual override on one labeled up but on auto on the one labeled down.

Looked up the manual for the motorised valve and it started that it should only be used on auto whilst in operation.

Should either or both be set on manual override?

Thanks

For normal operation both should be set to 'auto'.
The manual option is only there for use when filling the system, but it can be used as a temporary way to get the system working when a valve has failed, or the controls are not working properly.

Why do you have a builder on site? What is he doing in the property, workwise?

It is in a new development so builder is always about working on other plots.

So switched the up one back to auto and when the heating comes on it does appear t to move and the light comes on. The radiators upstairs also come on.

The problem seems to be downstairs now. The valve marked down doesnt seem to be moving now and won't light up, but was fine yesterday.

Is it worth trying the 'down' marked one in manual for a bit too see if it rights it self?

Not really - if the valve is broken it won't magically fix itself. The problem may be the controls elsewhere or the wiring.
In a new build property surely there is some kind of warranty for the system?
