The machine is about 9 years old and has had very light use.

On Tuesday, there was an electrical type bang! after about 30sec into a normal wash cycle (cycle 2) followed by that familiar slight smell of a burnt electrical/electronic component.

I immediately removed the mains plug and have now had a chance to have look at the machine.

On switching on, mains light is lit and the indicator dial on the control unit rotated round to the "stop" indicator from the position it had stopped at when I disconnected the supply.

DDosconneced from mains and have had a good look inside for any obvious sign of burnt out components.

Have removed motor, thinking it may be capacitor but it doesn't have one and the brushes look fine - no smells from commutator etc.

Had a look at mains filter - all looks ok. Checked timer/control module - again, cannot see and obvious signs of a blown component.

All that happens now is that on Cycles 1 & 2, the indicator dials rotates and clicks through 360deg back to the "stop" position - after presinng the "start" button.

Nothing happens on the other wash cycles.

Had another look at timer/motor controler and cannot see any obvious damage except for a small length of copper conductor on the PCB that has lifted slightly but not broken.

Any help or hints much appreciated.

Does the door lock?

Check the track back to the connector plug and follow the wire, does it go to the door interlock?

Yes, the door does lock but can be opened when the timer/programmer progress dial is rotating
